Katya Prince has been fascinated with clay since that first hand-print done in kindergarten (It was glazed a shiny red, not that bland yellow everyone else had). She has wandered from low-fire raku to cone-10 wood firing and back again. Through it all, though, there was a theme of geometric designs. Her heart is currently set on graphic black and white designs fired to cone 6. Soda firing is allowing her to enhance these designs without glazing (per se).
Katya received extensive art-school training at UC Santa Barbara way back in the 80’s, and has been honing her skills with quite a few workshops at places such as Penland School of Crafts www.penland.org and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts www.haystack-mtn.org. The rest has been trial by fire... The learning never ends.
