Q: What is soda firing?
A: Soda firing is a pottery process where soda ash (similar to baking soda) is introduced into the kiln when the glaze is hot enough to melt.  The sodium in the soda ash volatilizes and reacts with the clay and the molten glaze to form unique and interesting patterns.
